Just out of college I wrote copy for the promotional CD-ROMs of an IBM Premier Business Partner touting their (gulp) AS/400 midrange computer servers. We used less intimidating copy like the Dr. Seuss-inspired "Astounding Story of Mr. E" to lighten the mood from time to time.

I was one of Mahalo's first 20 employees, curating search engine results pages (SERPs) for the Web's most popular search terms via unique content creation and selecting the best-quality links for each topic. Also managed the Mahalo Greenhouse freelancers' community and wrote the Mahalo style guide.
3.
Controversial Mahalo founder Jason Calacanis previously sold his trailblazing Weblogs, Inc. blog network to AOL for millions, making him a top Web celeb. He liked that I often stayed at the office later than he did (although to be fair, I didn't have home Internet at the time so occasionally I might have been sticking around to bid on a vintage Van Halen shirt on eBay).
4.
PayPal/Tesla/SpaceX founder (and billionaire) Elon Musk stopped by to give us an inspiring pep talk once...and we got to take a ride in a Tesla prototype.
5.
Mahalo funders included Sequoia Capital, News Corp, CBS, Mark Cuban and Elon Musk.
6.
Learned firsthand that Mark Cuban (Dallas Mavs/"Shark Tank"/AXS TV/billionaire) really does personally answer most every email sent to him.
7.
Got my degree from Indiana University's School of Journalism with a minor in English (and beer. And girls. Or at least chasing girls. Well...dreaming of, someday, chasing girls).
8.
Founded by Blue Microphones' former CEO and an ex-Nokia exec, Revolve created "the world's first Earth-friendly electronics" and hired me to head up customer relations and serve as marketing coordinator. Their small electronics chargers were made of recycled auto plastic and bamboo fiber.
9.
I once sold an xeMini universal charger to Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen...one of my top meeting-a-musician encounters, and it happened from a cubicle in Ventura, CA.
10.
REI, Meijer and SkyMall carried Revolve and Amazon and Walmart sold them online; they were also sold live on the air of both QVC and HSN.
11.
Wrote the instruction booklet for RCA's very first cable modem, as well as a few other electronics items for Thomson Consumer Electronics brands like GE and ProScan (and I wrote a wacky proposal for a forward-thinking engineer on how Thomson should start researching how tissue engineering could someday apply to building electronics casing).
12.
Have written for the national music biz magazine Music Connection out of L.A. for many years; wrote cover stories and special features, album and live reviews, served as the "Nightlife" editor, and currently write a featured blog called "Tales of a Working Musician."
13.
Rivers Cuomo had just decided to self-manage Weezer and release their new album Maladroit to the media and radio without their label's approval when I interviewed him for a cover story...but we mainly just ended up talking about about Kiss.
14.
I interviewed Adam Levine in the back of the Bourgeois Pig in L.A. for a small feature right before Maroon 5's first single was released, and again for a cover story a year later the week "This Love" went to No. 1 on the Billboard charts.
15.
And oh yes, I discovered Sara Bareilles. Well...I represented MC as a judge for a multi-week singer/songwriter competition at UCLA that Sara won; she used the winnings to fund her first demo. The way I remember it, I had to fight the other judges for her to win...I mean, she was raw, you know, but I could see the potential, and now, thanks to me and pretty much only me, she's huge! Sara if you're reading this, call me back!

Proofed and edited the website of Dr. Alejandro Junger's Clean Program, famously endorsed by Gwyneth Paltrow and Martha Stewart.
17.
Proofed and edited the website and marketing collateral of high-end mic company Blue Microphones, famously endorsed by Imagine Dragons and about a million other recording artists.
18.
Proofed and edited the website of the Convention and Visitors' Bureau of Monterey County, CA, famously endorsed by...well, John Steinbeck and millions of other happy vacationers.
19.
Sole copy editor of all incoming content for the Wiley Long Enterprises network of health insurance agencies during their 2013-14 run to publish information explaining Obamacare as it related to health savings accounts, Medigap and Medicare Advantage.

Yup, WLE's 420 Life Insurance is based in Colorado and is geared towards exactly the demographic you think it's geared towards. It's 4:20 somewhere.....
